We are more than halfway through our first winter season in the Keys and we finally made it out to Little Palm Island (3 miles off little Torch Key) on Sunday afternoon. Little Palm Island Resort and Spa was destroyed by Hurricane Irma and has not yet reopened. However, the sand spit was full of boats enoying low tide. I am not sure if this spot will be available for boaters once the resort reopens but we will be making a few more trips out to enjoy the sandy spit at Little Palm before we leave this Spring.
We did learn a few things on our trip on Sunday.. Weekends are busy with other boaters. We were told it is normally busier than this past weekend, so maybe a lot of people were not boating due to the Super Bowl. Our next trip will be during the week. We may actually go tomorrow while the weather is good and the winds are still down. We also learned that you need 2 anchors. This is mainly because of all of the waves from the boat traffic. We now have both an anchor and a sand spike so we don’t have to sit in the chair that is tied to the boat (to keep it from swinging around). Randy scoped out the best places to beach or anchor the boat so hopefully he can find a good spot on our next trip!
