Geiger Key Marina Fish Camp Restaurant and RV Park 02/21/2019

We had this place on our list to try so it was great when Larry and Karen invited us to join them for dinner at Geiger Key Marina, 5 Geiger Road, Big Coppitt Key. Their website says it all; “An Old Florida Fish Camp. The way the Keys used to be.” You could rent paddle boards, kayaks or boats; charter fishing trips, enjoy the view, listen to live music or have a wonderful meal at Geiger Key.

I had their lobster bisque and it was fabulous. I also had one of their specials, a summer salad with coconut shrimp. Instead of the shrimp I got fried hog fish. The hogfish was very lightly battered and delicious. I can’t wait to go back and try it again! This is definitely a new favorite place. Randy has been looking at the marine charts to see how difficult it would be to go by boat!

Caution: Crocodiles in Area. Geiger Key–We didn’t see any but i am sure there are some around.

One of the things we always do when we get back after dark is check to see if we can see anything in the canal. Tonight there was a Portuguese Man-of-War floating behind the Mako. With the underwater light you could see if clearly. Especially its 3 foot tentacles! These South annd East winds are bringing this nice warm weather we have been enjoying, but they are also causing the abundance of sea grass in the canal. We have not seen any Portuguese for a few weeks, but this one is larger than previous ones in the canals.
