Christmas day was a gorgeous day. Mid 70’s but winds still in the teens. Very typical for the weather in the Keys for this time of year. Small craft warnings are predicted for the next couple of days but temperatures should climb back into the low 80’s by the weekend. It looks like friends that are visiting Key West in a few days will have some nice weather.
Even though we had our celebration with the kids last week, it was a little depressing being without my family on Christmas. I am, however, still loving my time in the warm weather and feeling better already now that the holiday has passed! The Venture Out community helped tremendously with making me feel the Christmas spirit. We attended the Christmas Eve live Nativity presentation and the Christmas Day feast. The recreation council provided the ham and turkey and everyone else just needed to bring a dish to share. I made zucchini bread and peaches stuffed with sweet potatoes. Had a last minute snafu as the baking dish did not fit in the new toaster oven that we bought just a few days before we started this adventure. I just cooked the sweet potatoes in the convection oven. They didn’t get the toasted top that they have when cooked in a regular type oven, but they were still good.
For Christmas, Randy gave me a Garmin Vivosmart HR+ to use on my walks. I tried it out on this morning’s 3.75 mile walk. I had Randy’s slides from his 1966 trip to Alaska converted to a digital format for one of his gifts. They turned out great. We spent some time in the afternoon looking at them. And we received. just in time for the holiday, our “Dirt Yacht” lettering for the back of the RV. Randy will put it on when we have a day with no wind. That might take a while!
Christmas was different this year than those in the past, but I still enjoyed the holiday and am not sorry we are having this adventure!
