Weebles Wobble But They Don’t Fall Down, Key West With Friends 12/27/2018

Spent too much time on Peter’s boat yesterday. This vertigo is so frustrating. Ever since my cochlear implant surgery I have balance issues and I have a lot of days when I feel like a Weeble that does fall down! Even our neighbor asked me this morning if I was alright as I was swaying–just standing still. I still was able to go for my morning walk but I felt like i was wandering quite a bit. Fortunately i am feeling better the more the day progresses.

Thoroughly enjoyed our day in Key West. Started by relaxing on Peter’s boat, but when I could not take the rocking anymore we headed to shore. The first stop was at Dante’s Pool Bar and Restaurant. Located at 951 Caroline Street; on the boardwalk between the Key West Ferry Terminal and the Half Shell Raw Bar, Dante’s advertise themselves as an “Aquaholics Paradise.” The swimming pool has a cascading waterfall surrounded by several Tiki bars. Randy and Peter enjoyed their “cold tropical libations” which would have entitled us to partake in the pool activities.

We left Dante’s and went to Alonzo’s Oyster Bar, 700 Front Street. We remembered this restaurant from prior visits as this is where they have Tarpon feedings at 4:00. Our neighbor recommended this place as the “best Happy Hour” location in Key West; however, we didn’t like the menu offerings or the atmosphere. Mostly this was due to the stuffy waiter. We got there a few minutes before 4 and asked to see the Happy Hour Menu. He was not happy with us. I guess he wanted a tip based on the full price offerings. Since no one wanted just oysters or shrimp, we only stayed long enough to try their Bloody Mary’s. Even thougth we thought we ordered the same drinks as Randy’s, except we asked for different vodka since I don’t like Absolut Peppar Vodka, somehow mine and Peter’s came without any of the fixings. . No olives, no shrimp, no Old Bay. And mine was more expensive with just plain Absolut Vodka. We asked for extra olives after the drinks were delivered and we got them, but very grudgingly. It was time to leave.

Our next stop was at the Galleon Resort where we watched one of the fishing charters unload their catch. They had quite a few grunts and mutton snappers that needed cleaning so we stayed to watch. The pelicans and tarpon lined up for scraps! Even a Great White Heron joined in the offerings.

Our final stop for the evening was at Pirate’s Cove at the Galleon Marina, 619 Front Street. This place was fantastic. Our waitress was from Bulgaria. She was a lot of fun and helped make our evening. She even brought Peter’s dog, Tasha, food and water. Peter’s sushi was awesome and I know we will be making a return trip just so I can get some for myself!
