Since it was Friday there was a little more boat traffic on the River today, but it was a pretty day so we wanted to get out while we could before the weekend. It had warmed up from the 57 degrees we woke up to, but I still needed a sweat shirt for the boat ride. It felt great in the sun, but the air was still chilly.
Today’s excursion was to Clayton. We have been by car several times, but today we took Sweet Thing. After exploring Clayton we explored some of the bays and coves along the St. Lawrence as we headed back to the dock. My favorite section was the strip between Round Island and Little Round Island. The water was calm and the houses were gorgeous. There was even a US Post Office on Round Island. And of course, Randy had to try the narrower passage between Little Round Island and N. Colborne Island and the unnamed rocks showing. He wanted to try the shallow area near Rock Island Lighthouse, but I suggested he go around and not through! I miss having a sand bar where we can beach the boat, but we did find a calm cove where we could eat the sandwiches I brought.
We passed several tour boats and freighters. I feel so tiny when those big ships go by! One thing Randy noticed was on the piers at the house on St. Helena Island–the island in front of the RV park. Someone had placed 2 coyote decoys. I had never seen anything like these before but when I googled them I learned that they are for sale as a deterrent to keep geese and ducks away. There we no geese or ducks in this area, so maybe they were working.
It was another great day on the water.
