We spent the afternoon on Islamorada (pronounced I-La-Morada) this afternoon. The name Islamorada or “Island Home” came from early Spanish explorers in the area. It is nicknamed “Purple Isle” since morada can also mean purple. The Village of Islamorada is comprised of six islands including Plantation Key, Windley Key, Upper Matecumbe Key, Lower Matecumbe Key and the offshore islands of Indian Key and Lignumvitae Key.
A Day in Paradise 01/08/2019
Today was an absolutely perfect day. Definitely paradise. The weather was gorgeous. Low to mid 80’s. Not too hot with light winds, but still warm enough to enjoy the pool.
Manatee 01/04/2018
We finally got the boat back in the water today. It has been on the trailer since Randy pulled it before the New Year because of the gale force winds. With Randy feeling better we can finally get back out on the water again.
It’s Not Fun When You Are Sick: No New Year’s Eve Celebration 12/31/2018
It’s not fun when you are sick, but especially on a holiday. That is even more true when you have friends in town and you don’t feel well enough to visit with them.
Weebles Wobble But They Don’t Fall Down, Key West With Friends 12/27/2018
Spent too much time on Peter’s boat yesterday. This vertigo is so frustrating. Ever since my cochlear implant surgery I have balance issues and I have a lot of days when I feel like a Weeble that does fall down! Even our neighbor asked me this morning if I was alright as I was swaying–just standing still. I still was able to go for my morning walk but I felt like i was wandering quite a bit. Fortunately i am feeling better the more the day progresses.
Christmas 12/25/2018
Christmas day was a gorgeous day. Mid 70’s but winds still in the teens. Very typical for the weather in the Keys for this time of year. Small craft warnings are predicted for the next couple of days but temperatures should climb back into the low 80’s by the weekend. It looks like friends that are visiting Key West in a few days will have some nice weather.
Weather 12/20/2018
It was warm but windy today. Highs in the mid 80’s. Strong storms are predicted for tonight and tomorrow so Randy pulled the Mako out of the water yesterday in preparation. It got a nice wash and wax today. Predictions are for gale force winds and possibly some flooding tonight and tomorrow. We have stored all outdoor furniture and even parked the golf cart under the empty house next door. Looking forward to nice weather again in a few days.
Another Lucky Night at Boat Club 12/19/2018
Venture Out where we are staying has 50/50 raffles at all of their activities. The funds raised are used to help pay for supplies, activities, etc. I won again tonight at our Block 2 get together. It wasn’t a lot of money ($25) but the second time I won money. 2 for 2 not bad odds!!
Kids Heading Home and Snipe Point 12/18/2018
The kids had mid-morning flights home so we joined them in Key West so they could head to the Key West airport after breakfast. We had breakfast at Blue Heaven on Petronia street in the heart of old Key West. Blue Heaven also own owns Salute! On The Beach restaurant that we went to for dinner on Monday night. Everyone wanted a final dinner at the Square Grouper but they were closed on Sunday and Monday until after Christmas. Another excuse why they need to make another trip!
Birthday Celebration; Kids Cruising Into Key West 12/15/2018
The day started the same as most Saturdays for us in Venture Out and that is with a pancake breakfast. The Saturday pancake breakfasts are a fund raiser for the recrecation committee of VO. Randy likes going because I have stopped making pancakes because of the amount of sugar in the pancakes and in the syrup and I like the breakfast since I don’t have to cook.
