We had 2 beautiful days with low winds and calm water to spend some time at Looe Key Marine Sanctuary. Looe Key Marine sanctuary is about 9 miles from our campsite. From the No. 1 channel marker (off the Atlantic), it is a straight shot for 5.1 Nautical Miles @ 148 degrees to the reef.
Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory 03/29/2019
On Friday, we visited the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory, 1316 Duval Street. I was so glad Kat wanted to go because it was on our “to do” list. It was one of the highlights of our time in the keys.
Sawyer Key 03/17/2019
Our neighbor across the canal, Bruce invited us to follow them out to Sawyer Key. Before we left we needed to fuel up so we left a little early to get gas. While we were heading to the fuel pier we noticed one of our neighbors catching (and releasing) a nurse shark from the Block 3 bulkhead. The kids were very excited with their catch.

We are enjoying most of the animal visitors to our canal and RV lot. So far I have not been able to get any pictures of the sharks that have visited the canal. We have seen several nurse sharks and at least one small bonnnethead. The manatee is still my favorite visitor!
Enjoying the great weather: Little Palm, Mangroves and Marvin Key 03/04/2019
It has been very warm and calm in the Keys for the last several days so we have taken advantage and used the boat quite a bit. They are calling for small craft warnings starting on Wednesday so Randy plans to pull the boat tomorrow to wash and clean the bottom. I hope we have a return of the great weather by the weekend since friends are visiting for a week.
Marvin Key 02/24/2019
Its great when last minute plans work out so well. We were not sure if we would make it out on the boat today but ended up going to Marvin Key. Our plans were up in the air this morning, but when our neighbor Bruce asked us if we wanted to go to Marvin Key with a few other neighbors, we decided to go. It was a great afternoon!
Nature in the Canal: Manatees snd Portuguese Man-O-War 02/23/2019
While making breakfast this morning Randy called me outside to see the Portuguese Man-O-War. It had captured a small fish. It’s natures way but still sad to see the fish struggle to get free. Randy looked but the fish was too far gone to survive. While outside we also noticed a large manatee in the canal. Such gentle giants. It seems like we only see them on very hot and calm days
Islamadora and Marathon: Robbie’s and Sunset Grille 02/22/2019
We met Tim and Julie at Marker 88 Restaurant, 88000 Overseas Highway, Islamorada, on their way to the Keys. We introduced them to hogfish which I think they both liked. We stopped at Robbie’s Marina, 77552 Overseas Highway, in the Lower Macumbie Key in Islamorada This place was voted the #1 place for tourists. Randy had to try one of their Bloody Mary’s. I did not like their “dirty” flavor. In addition to the restaurant and shops, you can rent boats, paddle boards, kayaks, and even feed the tarpons at Robbie’s. We decided to not pay the admission fee to feed the tarpons but still saw some on the charter boat docks. The charters were successful as they were cleaning lots of fish on the cleaning tables. This brought in the pelicans, Tarpon and sharks to feed on the scraps. There was even a Great Egret cleaning up the small scraps.
Geiger Key Marina Fish Camp Restaurant and RV Park 02/21/2019
We had this place on our list to try so it was great when Larry and Karen invited us to join them for dinner at Geiger Key Marina, 5 Geiger Road, Big Coppitt Key. Their website says it all; “An Old Florida Fish Camp. The way the Keys used to be.” You could rent paddle boards, kayaks or boats; charter fishing trips, enjoy the view, listen to live music or have a wonderful meal at Geiger Key.

Wednesday night was the pizza party for Block 2. I knew the party was going to be at the Bocce Court, but I did not know there would be an opportunity to play!
